Do you have an ambition to one day franchise your building company?
You build great homes...
You have a great reputation...
You are a professional builder...
So the next logical step would be to franchise your building company and roll out your brand right?
Well before you jump into franchising with both feet, there is one thing you need to do...
You cannot do anything with a business until it has been systemised. If it continually depends on you to come up with the solutions for everyday challenges then it is not a business of value, it is a job.
But when you systemise and document procedures, then you have something of value. A business that can be sold for a multiple of net profit...or even franchised.
In other words, a business can only be considered successful when it has been systemised, therefore the number 1 priority for every business owner is to document their processes and then continue to improve them. Once you've done that your business can be operated without you, which makes it a lot more valuable to a buyer.
But of course, you don't have to sell it. You can grow it, put a manager in place and semi-retire, or you can franchise.
How To Systemise A Building Company
Creating a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Manual can be quite daunting. But the thing is, this manual will always be a 'work in progress', so instead of worrying about getting it finished, just focus on getting it started.
That can be accomplished in a few minutes.
Decide where your SOP will be stored. Somewhere online is the best solution, you could use Dropbox or Google Drive to store the documents.
Dedicated software can make managing the process a lot easier for you. Or you could even use a website structure to manage the documents. Whatever you decide is best for you will work fine, but you need to start with one document.
The Procedure For Creating Procedures
Once you have created this procedure, every staff member can start documenting their own procedures. In no time at all you'll have the beginnings of a comprehensive SOP Manual for your business!
And when anything goes wrong or slips through the cracks, don't get angry, instead write a new SOP that prevents the problem occurring again.
If you are serious about creating a business that has value, a business that can be sold or franchised, then you really need to be working ON your business every week. But even that isn't enough, because it's essential that when you work on your business that you are working on the right things, in the right order.
If you don't, you'll end up burning out before you reach your goal.
It's Easy To Get Started
The easiest way to get started on the right things, in the right order is to work with someone who has been there, done it, learnt the mistakes and has taken other builders through the exact process you need to follow in order to systemise your business and create something of VALUE.
We're looking for a more builders to work with.
Are you going to be one of them?
